Macosquin Primary School
Special Needs
"The quality of the provision for special educational needs is very good. The special educational needs co-ordinator works very effectively to organise the provision for those children who require additional support with their learning.
Classroom assistants support the teaching and enhance the children’s learning. There is evidence that the children respond well to the range of support provided and have demonstratedimprovements in their understanding and learning.
The school also identifies and plans appropriate provision for the children who are gifted and talented."
Inspection Report, 2010
Special Needs provision is provided mainly to facilitate children requiring additional help with literary and numeracy skills. It has two objectives - prevention and remediation. Special Needs provision may take place within the classroom or during short periods when pupils are withdrawn from the class, enabling them to have more individual teaching. Such additional support does not replace classroom teaching - it is supplementary to it.
Parents are regularly consulted and updated on their children’s progress at each stage of the process in order for any child’s difficulty to be successfully addressed.
A copy of the school’s Special Educational Needs Policy is available by arrangement with the Principal.
