Pumpkin Sensory Exploration in Reception
13th Oct 2025
Our Reception children have been getting hands-on with pumpkins this week — scooping, smelling and exploring textures, inside and out! There were lots of curious faces (and a few wrinkled noses) as we discovered the slippery seeds and the earthy pumpkin scent.
This sensory activity encouraged wonderful language development as the children described what they could see, feel and smell. It also supported early scientific thinking as they asked questions, made observations and shared ideas.
Exploring pumpkins through play helps children develop curiosity, creativity, and confidence in using all their senses to learn about the world around them. 🌍✨🎃
