Reception go to the beach

17th May 2023

Reception had the best morning at the beach! We set out gathering beach materials that the sea had washed ashore but the children naturally gravitated towards the rock pools and water. We saw a crab scuttle sideways along the bottom of a sandy pool and some wanted to catch him! We realised that we needed something to catch him in- a net and a bucket! For some of us it was a first time seeing a ‘REAL crab!’ We discovered ‘jellies’ clinging to the rocks - sea anemones! The children were fascinated by these, particularly the ones that were still under water with their tentacles out! We also caught 2 shrimps! Oh the excitement… “They’re moving!” We all loved finding sea creatures. Luckily the tide was out so we could walk to the shelly area where we found some lovely shells and sea glass. Lots of shapes, sizes and colours. We finished our morning building sandcastles, filing holes with buckets of water, releasing the sea creatures we had caught and simply having fun. We can’t wait to our next session on the beach! 🦀 🪣
